Train Cake
So anyone that knows me knows that I like to dream big. Most of the time I just dream. For Zac's 1st birthday I really wanted to do a fun cake. So weeks ago I started plotting about what kind of cake to make. I finally settled on making a train cake. I found a 3D mold for a train engine and figured worst case scenerio I couldn't get it to work and I would buy a cake from Costco. Well luckily I was able to get the cake cooked and out of the pan.
I have the best mom in the world who helped me make this dream come true. She sacrificed her entire day off to help me get it frosted. The picture above we frosted in about 1 1/2 hours and then had to take a 3 hour break for Zac's naptime and my work. When we got back to finish the cake for some reason the top weighed too much and the engine had started to lean to the left. Woops! Guess I needed to put some sort of support in a 3D cake. Live and learn. Instead we propped it back up with another cake.
I have always wanted to learn how to work with Fondant on cakes, so crazy me decided to try it on this one. The train cars and round cake with Zac's name on it have the fondant. I was terrified that I was not going to be able to do it. Luckily a few days ago I found some ready made fondant at Michaels, so all I had to do was roll it out and put it on the cake. It was actually really easy to work with once I got started.

1 YEAR PICTURES
So this past Monday one of my co-workers took Zac's 1 year pictures. Cory did such a great job. Poor Zac was really sick all weekend and is currently cutting 2 teeth. He has been so grumpy and not napping very well this week. I was so glad that we got him to smile and got some great pictures of him. I really can't believe my baby is almost 1 year old. Where did the time go? A huge thanks to Cory for taking time out of his day to take some wonderful pictures of our baby.

BABY'S FIRST BALLOON
Friday night while Mark was at Scout camp Zac and I were out running errands. Not a rare thing I know. We stopped by Fresh Market to pick up a few groceries and one of the employees came over and asked if Zac would want a balloon. Sure I said, thinking he had never seen a balloon and it would be fun to see his reaction. He wasn't sure about it at first and couldn't figure out why it kept following us around. After a few minutes though he loved it. He couldn't stop laughing. Needless to say it entertained him all night long.
